Recently, I was granted a phone interview with Mr. Schimeon Frederick, CEO of My Business Genie, and a rising star among outsourcing companies, based in Nevada. My Business Genie has skyrocketed to fame and been able to acquire some lucrative contracts during the last year. With this recession, Mr. Frederick explains that “everyday small businesses are finding that My Business Genie is the answer to their troubles.”
Q. WHAT ARE THE TOP OUTSOURCING SERVICES REQUESTED BY YOUR COMPANY?
Our most popular service is our Business Genies. Since Genies can handle such a large array of services at an affordable price, customers are realizing tremendous value in them and referring colleagues.
Q. WHAT SETS MY BUSINESS GENIE APART FROM OTHER OUTSOURCING COMPANIES?
My Business Genie is unique in the fact that we can handle just about any aspect of back office support at an affordable price. We don’t just have the human resources portion of the back office we also have much of the technology side of the back office covered as well. We provide prompt professional products and services at an extremely affordable price. Not to mention that we are dedicated to educating people about proper outsourcing standard and guidelines, because we feel that the more educated a customer is regarding outsourcing the better choice in an outsourcing partner they can make.
Q. CAN YOU GIVE A BRIEF OVERVIEW OF HOW OUTSOURCING HAS CHANGED OVER THE YEARS?
For years outsourcing was reserved for large corporations with the money and resources to invest in outsourcing. With the boom of technology we have been able to do business globally with the same ease as if our partners or employees were next door. Outsourcing and off shoring is a fairly new concept to the small business owner/operator however they are beginning to utilize outsourced and offshore resources. Some of the challenges that they are having is finding an outsourcing partner that they can trust that will provide them quality professional service at an affordable price.
Q. HOW MANY PEOPLE WORK FOR YOU AND WHERE ARE THEY FROM?
Since it’s inception My Business Genie has grown tremendously, from just a couple of people working out of my house to having an east coast and west coast presence, as well as two call centers in the Philippines with plans to expand to a 3rd there and one in Costa Rica.
Q. WHAT ARE SOME OF THE CHALLENGES IN RUNNING A MULTI-NATIONAL COMPANY?
The biggest challenge for us has been building the infrastructure and developing the policies and procedures that will protect the customers interest and ensure that each customer receives the same high quality service on a consistent basis.
Q. IN WHAT CATEGORIES ARE YOUR BIGGEST CUSTOMERS?
We service a wide range of clients including realtors, education professionals, doctors, and this list continues to grow, however, our biggest customers are entrepreneurs. We find that entrepreneurs are extremely adept at servicing their clients with whatever product or service they offer, but usually fall short with quality back office support. To run a full time back office takes many skilled workers, hours of procedural structure, time and money. Many entrepreneurs would rather outsource these functions to a vendor that they trust for a fraction of the time and expense of running the functions in house. This adds money to their bottom line as well as allows them to do what they do best which is develop and promote their products and services.
Q. WITH THIS LOOMING RECESSION, HAS BUSINESS PICKED UP?
With the current financial state of this country we have found that more and more small business owners are seeking alternative solutions to cut operating expenses without suffering a degradation in the quality of service that their customers are accustom to receiving. As well as staying competitive in regards to price with their larger competitors. Entrepreneurs and business owners see the value in our services since they can get work done on an ad hoc basis, or take advantage of our affordable rates for quality human resources. This is where they see the real power of the Genie. It’s because we are extremely flexible with our terms of service where it isn’t mandatory that they have a long term contract. Customers can choose to just fund their account and just pay what they use.
Q. WHAT ARE THE MAJOR BENEFITS OF OUTSOURCING FOR SMALL BUSINESSES?
There is a long list of benefits to small businesses to outsource some services. One they don’t have to pay payroll taxes or other fringe benefits like health insurance or 401k. They don’t have to concern themselves with redundancy of processes and procedures to ensure that there is no gap in service if someone becomes ill or goes on vacation, and most of all they can use their free time working on the items that ultimately make them more money, or spend more time with their loved ones. We help people remember the reason they started a business in the first place.
Q. OUTSOURCING CAN BE ADVANTAGEOUS TO SMALL BUSINESSES BUT HOW CAN THE HOME BASED WORKER ALSO BENEFIT FROM THIS?
This is the perfect solution for the home based business. When you hire employees with a home based business you have to invite these people to your home which most times disrupt the flow of the household. It also restricts your movements if you don’t trust to leave this person in your home while you run errands or go do sales. Most of all, a true business should be able to operate even if you aren’t present from day to day.
Q. DO COMPANIES NEED IN-HOUSE WORKERS OR CAN WE LIVE IN A COMPLETELY VIRTUAL SOCIETY?
That’s a great question. Although I would say that I’m the biggest fan of living in a virtual society, but I would say that right now there are many businesses that will need to always have in house workers, however on the other hand I don’t think that there is any business that can’t benefit from outsourcing in one way or another.
I wrapped up this interview with hopes of further discussions with the other executives of My Business Genie. Ms. Shereese M. Henderson, the VP of Customer Service and Business Intelligence, who heads up the northeast division of My Business Genie, was not available at the time of this interview however, will grant me a future meeting to give me insight into running a multi-national call center.
